Powder post Beetles infest structural wood. Naturel population of the beetle occurs in dead branches & household infestation probably originates from out door, As structural wood pest the larvae damage untreated wood. The infestation can remain active for many years. The pest with wood boring habits is viewed seriously considering their ability to reduce timber and wooden articles to a masa of splinters and dust.
Powder Post Beetles, mainly belong to three important families of beetles.
These families are
1) Lyctidae
21 Bostrichidae and
3) Anobidae
Life Cycle
Powder post Beetles have 1-5 years life cycle depending on the quality of the wood infestation the fluctuation in temperature & moisture content of the wood, Species of Beetle. The larvae feed on the sapwood portion of wood (less than 10-12 years) & old wood is attacked. The frass is Undigested wood/Excreta of the beetle.
Characters of Infestation
Infestation usually detected in house that is older than 7-8 years, presence of exit holes & Frass in wood part /article In new Infestation, external evidence of attack may be tacking because larvae may feed within the wood for 1-5 years before emerging adult make exit hole, Exit holes are round & range in diameter from 1/17-1/18 inches. Active infestation is characterized by the presence of light colored, powdery frass streaming form exit hole
Powder post Beetles are 2 to 7 min long and light brown to almost black in colour. The site cycle of the beetles begin when the eggs are laid into the pores and cocks on wood and wooden articles. They hatch out, releasing tiny larvae that bore into the wood. The larvae live there for years feeding on the wood creating a network of intricate internal tunnels throughout the timber unlike termites that attack timber for cellulose, powder post beetles attack timber for high content of starch in
The powder or frass found in the tunnels is nothing but excreta of these beetles and undigested cellulose of the wood. The souls emerge out by making tiny pinhead sized holes, commonly known as shot holes or light holes. The adults live for about 8-10 weeks
Usually pairing takes place immediately alter emergence of adults and eggs are laid. The entire cycle takes 6 months to a year or even up to 5 years, depending upon the species and environmental factors. New infestation takes place by migration of adults to settle down in new places. The peculiarity of this post is that their infestation remains hidden for a long time without giving any Indication of its presence in the wooden articles it is usually noticed after, completion of at least one generation when adults start emerging out through shot holes and powder start falling from them,
MODE OF TREATMENT:
Our Control measures for these pests consist of injecting a suitable insecticidal formulation at the prescribed concentration into the shot holes created by the pests on the infested woodwork, followed by a thorough spray to the entire article
Under an annual contract, we would be carrying out treatments as above, on monthly basis for the first 4 consecutive months and thereafter two quarterly check ups and treatment il necessary, during the rest of the contractual period
Most of the infestation of PPB is destroying with 2 Consecutive months, next control result is gradual
WE CREATE TARGET PEST MANAGEMENT A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT
