Norway rat have a life span of about 12 months. Roof rat have life span of about 8 months, female produces 60 offspring’s per year. Roof rat will eat 25-50gm of food per day & drink 30 cc water per day. The home range/feeding territory for roof rat/Norway rat is about 11150 feet.
Characters-
Norway Rat-Large body, small ears, & the tall, which is shorter than head & body together. They have known as HOUSE RAT, BROWN RAT and SEWER RAT. Larger bodied & stronger than the other species of rat. They prefer food rich with carbohydrates & protein
Roof Rat/Black Rat- Moderate body, large ears, long tall & excellent climbers. Build nest in tree & vines, inside building, in ground burrow Most often in seaport, so called as ship rat. They prefer food as seeds, vegetables, fruits & cereals
Mice Small Rodent- They distinguished from rat by their small size, eyes and feet. Cause damage by habitual nibbling. They transmit diseases to human. Excellent sense of touch, smell, hearing. They can jump, fast runner and swim They feed almost 20-23 times each day in small amount but destroy large amount Females are capable to produce 48-52 offspring in life span
MODE OF TREATMENT:
Prevention is the best control strategy for rats. The first part for control program must be sealing all possible site from where rodent may be enter in to the premises. The drains inside premises should be sealed & maintain clean. All rodent traps Crays, Feeding Station, should be secured to the building/to the ground
